The German car manufacturer held a two-week long world premiere at the MDT museum DieselHouse in Copenhagen.

A ‘top-tuned’ DieselHouse museum, more than 400 curious, motoring journalists from around the world, and around 70 brand-new Audi-vehicles.  These were the main ingredients when German car manufacturer Audi launched a two-week-long engine presentation, combined with a celebration of the anniversary of the successful TDI-engine. “We are proud that Audi chose DieselHouse and Copenhagen as the setting for a world premiere of this calibre,” said Peter Dan Petersen, Head of Marketing and Documentation, MDT Copenhagen.

Over 10 working days, Audi used the museum with its historical, diesel engines to host more than 40 journalists a day, some 400 journalists in total. The car-enthusiasts travelled to Copenhagen from 26 different countries, mostly from Europe, but North America, Asia and Oceania were also significantly represented. After the presentations in DieselHouse, the journalists and Audi crew crossed the bridge to Sweden where they tested the Audi cars to the limit on a racing track in Malmo.

Besides the presentation of Audi’s newest diesel technology, the event marked the 25th anniversary of its popular TDI-engine. In the autumn of 1989, the company presented the Audi 100 equipped with a 2.5 TDI unit, since which time TDI engines have run in over 7 million private cars. “We look back on this time with pride, for the TDI has made a big contribution to our brand’s upward positioning in the premium segment. Today, we are taking the next big step as we begin with its electrification,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development.

The experienced engineers working in DieselHouse have been impressed by the professional way Audi managed the event in the museum. “But the admiration was also the other way around. The journalists seemed especially impressed by the big, old engine in the centre of our house,” says the Head of DieselHouse, Ernst Lasson, who also received some positive feedback from the head of Audi on DieselHouse as a venue: “Audi’s CEO told me that he definitely wouldn’t rule out holding an event like this again in DieselHouse,” Ernst Lasson concludes with contentment.
